Five Guys Burgers and Fries started as a piece of parental advice (or maybe it was an ultimatum – you can decide). As Jerry and Janie Murrell’s four sons were growing up, the couple told them each, “Start a business or go to college.” Well, the four boys decided that starting a business was probably the better choice for them, but they didn’t each go off on their own to start their careers. Instead, working with their parents, they started Five Guys in Arlington, Virginia in 1986.
From the very beginning, when you ordered from the Five Guys menu, you’d get a perfectly hand-formed burger and hand-cut fries that were cooked in pure peanut oil for a difference you could taste from the first bite to the last. With such superior burgers and fries, the first five locations of the Five Guys chain quickly gained a “cult-like” following in the Washington, DC area.
Today, there are over 1000 Five Guys locations around the United States, and the restaurant continues to gain popularity, as more and more people discover the difference that better ingredients and made-to-order service can make. Not only do you have numerous options on the regular Five Guys menu, but you can also choose from a few really special options on the Five Guys secret menu.
Though it’s not published in their restaurants or on their website, the Five Guys secret menu contains some really great meals that you won’t get anywhere else. For example, you can order a double grilled-cheese burger or a patty melt, even though neither of these items actually appears on the Five Guys menu. If you want your fries a little crispier, just order them well done, and for a little bit of variety, get an order of cheese fries from the Five Guys secret menu, too.
So why are Five Guys burgers and fries so much better than other restaurants and stores? By corporate policy, there are no freezers in any of the Five Guys locations. That guarantees that your Five Guys burgers will never be thawed from frozen meat, and you’ll never have soggy, frozen fries, either. Everything is fresh and hand-made to order, a guarantee that has ensured that the “cult-like” Five Guys following will continue to grow all over the country and even all over the world.
