As Jerry and Janie Murrell’s four sons were growing up, the couple told them each, “Start a business or go to college.” Well, the four boys decided that starting a business was probably the better choice for them, but they didn’t each go off on their own to start their careers. Instead, working with their parents, they started Five Guys in Arlington, Virginia in 1986.

From the very beginning, when you ordered from the Five Guys menu, you’d get a perfectly hand-formed burger and hand-cut fries that were cooked in pure peanut oil for a difference you could taste from the first bite to the last.
