Have you ever wondered how McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and other fast food chains differ in the UK, Canada, Japan, and other countries around the world? You might be surprised at just how many fast food items you’ll find in other countries that are not served in the United States. Some of them sound really tasty and should definitely be a stop on your next vacation, but others are a little bit more…adventurous…and some American travelers would probably prefer to avoid them.

McDonald’s India – no beef on the menu

For example, you will not find any beef products in McDonald’s restaurants in India. To make up for this, Indian McDonald’s locations include a lot more veggie and chicken options. The McVeggie is served with a vegetarian patty made up of potatoes, carrots, and peas. Then there’s the Big Spicy Paneer Wrap that features a deep-fried patty of paneer cheese and veggies in a wrap.

Wendy’s Japan – prepare for seafood

Stopping by Wendy’s in Japan? You’re in for a real treat if you like seafood or foie gras. The Japanese Wendy’s menu includes a lobster surf and turf burger and a caviar and lobster burger. And they serve a burger that’s topped with goose liver (foie gras), too.

Pizza Hut Malaysia – seafood pizza

If you find yourself in Malaysia, be sure to try the Golden Fortune pizza from Pizza Hut. It includes crab stick, shrimp, pineapple, and lime, and the dough of the crust is individually rolled and stuffed with cheese, too.

KFC South Korea – weird combo’s

In South Korea KFC has an interesting dessert that some Americans might find a little bit off. The Blueberry Patbingsu is made with shaved ice, blueberry syrup, blueberries, and…red beans. We hear it’s a big hit with local customers, but we’re not sure about it for ourselves.

Now, you don’t have to go all the way to Korea, Malaysia, Japan, or India, though. In fact, you don’t have to go too far outside the US to get some very different menu options from Burger King. In Canada, BK offers Poutine, a classic Canadian snack made from piling chees curd, gravy, bacon, and other delicious ingredients on top of French fries. And, if you can’t get to Canada, but you live somewhere with access to cheese curd, you can actually order this one off of Burger King’s secret menu in the US, even though you won’t see it printed or advertised on their website.
