In 1965, a young Alan Stillman opened the very first TGI Friday’s on Manhattan’s East Side in hopes of meeting women. At the time, Stillman felt like there really wasn’t a good space in New York where young people between 23 and about 37 could go for drinks, meet, and get to know each other. He wanted to create the same atmosphere he found in private cocktail parties, and so he named his bar after the popular saying, “Thank goodness it’s Friday!”
With TGI Friday’s menu prices set affordably low for young people and one of the first “ladies’ nights” in Manhattan, Stillman was successful in creating a place for young people to go out casually instead of strictly going out for dinner on a date or going to friends’ apartments for a night in. After starting this trend, TGI Friday’s began to grow and grow. Today there are over 900 TGI Friday’s locations in 60 countries around the world.
While the original idea of the restaurant was to be more of a bar and casual social spot, it has, over the years, turned more toward casual dining. However, that’s not to say that beverages have fallen off of the TGI Friday’s specials list. In fact, the restaurant is famous for some of its unique and delicious adult beverages, including the Ultimate Casamigos Spicy ‘Rita, the Strawberry Henny, the Blackberry Long Island Tea Shaker, and a number of other signature cocktails that you won’t find anywhere else.
Today, TGI Friday’s locations are all family-friendly (perhaps those young couples who met there in the ‘60s have all grown up and had kids of their own?). If you’re bringing your family and/or friends, you’ll want to try all of the different taste sensations available to you, including the brand new bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapenos.
These roasted jalapenos are stuffed with slow-roasted beef, parmesan, and asiago cheese and then wrapped in bacon and glazed with a delicious Jack Daniel’s® sauce. And that’s just one of the many selections on the menu! You can choose from burgers, steaks, salads, soups, and, of course, there’s something for the little ones on the kids’ menu, too. From appetizers to desserts, the TGI Friday’s menu prices are very affordable, especially considering the high quality of the foods and beverages that the chain offers.
