subway nutritionSurprisingly enough, the original Subway restaurant – Pete’s Subway – was not opened with the thought of making a restaurant empire. Fred Deluca, who was only 17 when he decided to go into the subway sandwich business, opened the Bridgeport, Connecticut store as a way to pay for his college education. He wanted to be a doctor! Now there are over 44, 3576 restaurants in 100 countries – from Afghanistan to Zambia, and a whole lot of other places in between. Fred and his business partner, Dr. Peter Buck (the only one in the partnership who actually is a doctor) have come a long way since that first little store that they opened in 1965.

Subway Menu – fresh and healthy

Subway is known for their quality, fresh ingredients and their generous and flavorful toppings low on calories. Unlike many restaurants, a subway sandwich is made just the way you want it – right in front of you. Even their signature sandwiches can be changed and “improved” according to your whims. Toppings are always free – and you can add as many as you like.

One very nice thing that you can find presently at your local Subway menu is the Subway Simple $6 Menu. In this special menu offering, you get to choose from one of six 6-inch sandwiches. Then you also get a bag of chips and a 21oz drink of your choice. Your Subway sandwich menu choices (in most locations) are Black Forest Ham, Italian B.M.T, Meatball Marinara, Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki, Tuna, or Turkey Breast.

Three new Chicken Sandwiches

Recently Subway has added three new chicken sandwiches to their Subway menu prices. They are all made with grilled chicken strips and are very yummy. The three new sandwiches are:

  1. Chicken & Bacon Ranch Melt – Chicken strips, bacon, melted cheddar cheese, tomato, green peppers, onions.
  2. Monterey Chicken Melt – Grilled chicken with melted Monterey Cheddar, cucumbers, spinach, tomatoes, and red onions.
  3. Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki – Teriyaki glazed chicken and sweet onion sauce. Add all your favorite toppings and enjoy this low-fat sandwich.

Subway has been working very hard on improving their chicken sandwiches, so if you were disappointed before, you should really give one of these a try. Maybe you could start with the six- inch Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki from the Simple Six menu. You can try the new Subway sandwich and get a drink and chips besides. Such a deal!
