When it first opened at the height of the Great Depression in 1935, Friendly’s was a family-owned ice cream shop in Massachusetts. The brothers who founded the restaurant and ice cream parlor opened a second shop just five years later, but shortly thereafter, the business would shut its doors until 1951 as a result of World War II. After the war, though, Friendly’s was back in business and growing. By 1951, there are 10 locations between western Massachusetts and Connecticut.

As the company expanded, so did the Friendly’s menu, and today you can stop in at any one of the 380 Friendly’s locations anywhere along the east coast of the United States for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or delicious ice cream desserts.

If you’re stopping by Friendly’s in the morning for breakfast, you can conquer even the largest hunger with the Lumberjack Breakfast. With this dish, you’ll get three extra-large eggs made however you like them, Applewood bacon, three slices of brioche toast with butter, and three fluffy and delicious pancakes. If you’re looking for a lighter, healthier option, you can order steel cut oatmeal instead, or you can get the breakfast sampler and enjoy a yogurt parfait, two eggs, and two strips of bacon, or two sausage links. Other breakfast options include the Big-Two-Do breakfast, Belgian waffles, and pancakes, too.

For lunch and dinner, you can pay low Friendly’s menu prices for Big Beef burgers, SuperMelt® sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. Among the most popular entrees you’ll find on the Friendly’s menu are New England fish ‘n’ chips, country chicken tenders, the clam strips platter, and a four-cheese penne dish, as well.

And you’ll always want to leave room for dessert when you stop in to any Friendly’s location. Along with a few signature creations, at Friendly’s, you can “build your own creation” when you choose the size (including cups and a selection of cones, too), flavor (lots to choose from!), and all of the toppings you can handle.
