Papa John’s Pizza may be one of the best-known and most popular pizza delivery companies in the world today, but it actually started with very humble beginnings back in 1983. “Papa John”, himself, was John Schattner, a young man with a vision and very few resources. The original Papa John’s pizzas were sold in Schattner’s father’s tavern after Schattner sold his Camaro, bought $1600 of used kitchen equipment, and knocked out a closet in the back of the tavern to create a kitchen. The pizzas Schattner was making were so good and so popular that just a year later, he said goodbye to his original broom closet kitchen and moved Papa John’s Pizza to a bigger, adjoining space next door.
While the first Papa John’s was a standalone business in Indiana, the company has grown a great deal since then. There are now 4600 locations in the United States and around the world, and while the brand continues to grow, Schattner’s commitment to excellence remains the same. The company slogan, “Better ingredients. Better pizza. Papa John’s,” isn’t just lip service. John Schattner is and always has been dedicated to making the very best delivery and take-out pizzas that money can buy, but that’s not all. There’s a Papa John’s special with two medium two-topping pizzas and a two-liter drink of your choice for just $17.00.
The Papa John’s menu has more than just pizza, though. If you’re after some great appetizers, the new garlic knots are just $5.00. And don’t forget Papa John’s famous chicken poppers for just $8.00. Then, after dinner, if you want something sweet, you can also get a delicious double chocolate chip brownie or a 10” chocolate chip cookie cake along with your pizza order, too.
