In 1945, brothers-in-law Irv Robbins and Burt Baskin each owned their own ice cream shops. Rather than compete against one another, the two decided to merge their businesses and form Baskin Robbins. At the time, Robbins’ ice cream parlor was already a unique one, offering an unheard of (at the time) 21 different flavors. Instead of paring down the flavor options, though, when the two joined forces, they increased that number to 31, hence Baskin Robbins’ famous “Thirty-One-derful Flavors!” slogan.

This new concept of offering 31 flavors of ice cream meant major success for Baskin Robbins, and today there are 7300 Baskin Robbins locations throughout the United States and all over the world. Today, you can get more than just scoops of ice cream when you go to any Baskin Robbins location, though. You can also choose from milkshakes, floats, and custom ice cream cakes that you can order online or in person.

If you want something really unique and delicious, try one of Baskin Robbins’ specials, like the Banana Royale Sundae, made up of vanilla and chocolate ice cream, hot fudge, caramel sauce, bananas, almonds (no peanut allergies here!), and topped off with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Then there’s the Brownie Sundae, made up of your choice of a delicious brownie topped with two flavors of ice cream, along with hot fudge and other classic sundae toppings.
